7 Questions For The Summer Interns
Tell us your role at The Crossing this summer and a little about yourself?
Hi, I am Amanda Berry. This summer I am interning for the Creative Arts team. I started my internship in June so I am just starting to get an idea of what I will be doing. So far, I have helped backstage on Sunday mornings, helped film The Pulse and other random tasks throughout the week.
My name is Josiah Philip. I have been attending The Crossing since it began in 2000. I left for college to attend Azusa Pacific University in Southern California in September of last year. Some of my favorite things to do in California include road trips, as well as evenings at Disneyland, with my friends. This summer I am the Creative Arts Summer Assistant. One of my main responsibilities is producing, filming and editing The Pulse for our Sunday morning services. I am involved in service planning and execution. On Sunday mornings you can find me anywhere from leading worship, working on the stage hand team, to running around doing random tasks that come up during the day.
Hey, I’m Drew Sisson. I like romantic dinners and long walks on the beach…Oh wait, wrong interview. Anyway, I am entering my sophomore year at Lincoln Christian College in the boring farm town of Lincoln, Illinois. I have considered The Crossing my home church since I was a freshman in high school, which was about five years ago. My duties fall under the Department of Operations, supervised by the awesome Chuck Hiatt. I do a lot of unrelated tasks. For example, one week I worked in the computer area and on another day I sat at the reception desk answering phones. I took this role to gain experience on what it’s like working on the business side (if I can say that) of the church. So anything I can do to learn from Chuck and help The Crossing is fine with me.
- If you could be a superpower team together, what would it be and why?
Funny you mention superheroes; we actually have been mistaken for members of the Justice League before. Drew is Green Lantern, Josiah is the Flash, and Amanda is Batman.
- How long have you known each other?
We have known each other for a long time. We all attended The Crossing when it was held at Lawrence Junior High. But it was not until we were all in high school when all three of us started hanging out together. The three of us were on the worship team in Student Ministries and we were in the same House Church throughout high school. So it’s been about 8 years that we’ve known each other.
What is the funniest memory the three of you have together?
One of the funniest memories was when the three of us, and a few other people, went to my (Amanda’s) cabin in Utah. We went into a cave and about halfway in it we told Josiah that there were bats and he freaked out and ran, more like sprinted, out of the cave. Hilarious!
- What are you majoring in? And what do you want to do after college?
Amanda - In a few short months I will be heading to Lincoln Christian College in Illinois. I plan on majoring in Youth Ministry. I am open to whatever God leads me to do in life. If that means a different major, I’m down with that too. However, at this moment, I am planning on Youth Ministry. After college I would like to get a job at a church as a youth pastor or maybe be Connie Whaley when I am older. Having a family and stuff will be nice after college too.
Josiah - This fall I will head back to L.A. and begin my sophomore year at Azusa Pacific University. My major is Christian Ministries with minors in Biblical Studies and Psychology. After college I am planning on being a pastor at a church. I have no idea what kind of pastor I will be, but I know I love the Creative Arts aspects of the church. I am open to doing ministry anywhere in the country or the world. I will go wherever God calls me to go. A place I think would be amazing to do ministry, would be New York City.
Drew - My major at LCC is Business Administration. For the moment I honestly have no clue where my degree will take me. I would like to work at a church as the operations pastor or maybe for a non-profit organization. It would be awesome if God made me the Green Lantern, then I could have a comic book and a movie…sorry, daydreaming there. I am open to whatever God has planned and I know He will provide.
- If the three of you could get on a plane today, where would you go?
The three of us want to go to Italy, Greece, & France with a stop at Lincoln Christian College in Illinois so Amanda can see the school where she will be attending this fall.
- Make a group decision on the best movie you have ever seen?
Amanda has no knowledge on Josiah and Drew’s favorite movie; Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade. The boys’ unwillingness to compromise led to Amanda choosing her own favorite movie; Remember The Titans.
